Come out, get involved, and shape the future of Halifax—join our campaign and help drive change.

Last night’s @ywcahalifax debate focused on important topics ranging from childcare, to reproductive rights, to supportive housing.

Thank you to the YWCA for their dedication and hard work putting this event on, to the partner organizations for the work they do for women and gender-diverse folks in our community, and to the crowd for providing thoughtful questions on the issues that matter to them.

At its core, democracy is about those seeking elected office showing up, sharing their ideas, and earning the trust of their constituents. With that in mind, I also want to thank Lisa Roberts for attending, and for the respectful discourse throughout the evening.

Earlier this week, the Liberal Party released our platform: Canada Strong, Mark Carney's Plan to Unite, Secure, Protect, and Build.

This plan is pragmatic, feasible, and ambitious, and includes a number of measures that will directly benefit Haligonians, such as:

- Eliminating all federal barriers to interprovincial trade and labour mobility

- Making the Confederation Bridge, Northumberland, and Marine Atlantic Ferries more affordable

- Building new trade infrastructure that connects Canada through the new Trade Diversification Corridors Fund, including ports such as the Port of Halifax, and airports such as Halifax Stanfield

- Making rural and small communities such as Sambro and Ketch Harbour more affordable and accessible by investing an additional $250 million in the Rural Transit Solutions Fund

- Investing an additional $250 million in the repair and maintenance of small craft harbours

- Increasing medical school and residency spaces, building new medical schools, making it easier for internationally trained doctors and health professionals to practice in Canada

- Investing in deeply affordable housing, supportive housing, and shelters

- Protecting and strengthening the $10-a-day Early Learning and Child Care system to create 100,000 new spaces by 2031

- Making the National School Food Program permanent

- Giving a temporary income boost to low-income seniors by increasing the Guaranteed Income Supplement

- Getting young Canadians started with their first job by connecting them with the jobs and skill development opportunities they need

- Establishing a new in vitro fertilization program that provides up to $20,000 for a single standard cycle of IVF treatment

- Working to end gender-based violence by continuing investments in the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence

And that's just to name a few.

Mark Carney's experience, combined with a strong vision, is exactly what's needed to meet this critical moment.

Today is Earth Day, a day to raise awareness for environmental issues and show gratitude for the important work being done by environmental organizations.

🌎This year’s theme focuses on biodiversity: balancing our ecosystems to protect our communities against the effects of climate change.🌎

But this work can’t be limited to a day. We need to be thinking about the planet year-round, and working to find common-ground solutions to the environmental challenges we are facing.

Now more than ever we need leaders who will champion innovative climate solutions. Because environmental protection means building more resilient infrastructure, creating new jobs and industries, and strengthening our Halifax economy in the face of US tariffs.

While Pierre Poilievres Conservatives have committed to eliminating industrial pollution pricing, which is one of our country’s most important climate measures, the Liberals have promised to maintain and strengthen it.

Our plan emphasizes clean growth opportunities, including an east-west electricity grid, critical minerals, battery manufacturing, biofuels, and high-speed rail.

I was proud to fight for our planet during my time as the city of Halifax’s Director of Environment and Climate Change, and this plan is part of why I am proud to be running with Mark Carney’s Liberal Party.

🚌 Public transit is critical to help build a stronger, more connected Halifax.

In March, the Liberal government announced $55M to upgrade and replace our public transit infrastructure here in the HRM. This will help improve service and modernize this city’s transit system.

“This gives us an opportunity to comfortably make right decisions on what our transit needs are,” said Halifax Transits Executive Director Robin Gerus

In Parliament, I will stand up for these investments, and work to create a city that works for everyone. 🚌

Popped over to the @armview in between canvassing to chat with Julie White about Halifax Burger Bash. Burger Bash is a great way to give a boost to local restaurants during this challenging time and to help support organizations fighting food insecurity in the Halifax region.

But the reality is Feed Nova Scotia operates year-round, and I encourage everyone to not only get out for their favourite burger, but to place a donation as well.

In government, I will fight to combat this issue and advocate for continued investment in vital initiatives such as the School Food Program.
